Dermaroller

Linda Schaller | Skin Rejuvenation | Dermaroller

Dermaroller™ (pronounced ‘Derma-Roller’) is an exciting skin renewal / skin resurfacing treatment using micro needles, which has grown in popularity over the last few years. The device used can be known as a skin roller, face roller, microneedle roller or a dermal roller.

The great thing about Dermaroller™ treatment is that it has multiple applications. Dermaroller™ for stretch marks (i.e. stretch mark removal / stretch mark treatment) and Dermaroller™ for acne scars (i.e. acne scar removal / acne scar treatment).

The reality is that the idea of this type of device being involved in derma rolling, micro needling or skin needling can sound a little daunting but the good news is that the treatment is undertaken by trained professionals meaning that quality and safety are guaranteed as well as patients having an anaesthetic to numb the skin making the procedure comfortable.

Below we have included some key information about the process involved so that patients understand how everything works before moving to the next steps:

Natural Skin Regeneration and Scar Repair

Genuine Dermaroller™ treatment can significantly improve the appearance of:

– Acne scars
– Aged and sun damaged skin
– Facial and décolleté lines and wrinkles
– Skin Pigmentation
– Stretch marks

Genuine Dermaroller™ treatments provide enhanced micro-medical skin needling which is a procedure that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely. This in turn creates a smoother, brighter, healthier and younger-looking skin.

Genuine Dermaroller™ treatment utilises sterile single-use medical devices and as mentioned previously because the treatment is only available from trained medical practitioners and authorised clinics, patients are ensured that quality and safety are guaranteed.

Therapy Procedure

Linda uses a Genuine Dermaroller™ medical device to produce thousands of micro-medical needle-columns in the skin. Each column penetrates into the dermis of the skin (approximately 0.1mm in width) and because the column closes rapidly it enables the skin to recover quickly (often the same day).

Linda uses a topical anaesthetic to numb the skin making the procedure comfortable which takes around 30 minutes to work and the Dermaroller™ therapy procedure will take a further 20-30 minutes to complete.

Your body will naturally start to regenerate and repair the skin by working below the surface in the dermis. As you expect this takes time as new collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated and blood supply is enhanced. It can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration, replacement and repair are seen but the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural long lasting enhancement.

Depending on the area being treated it is recommended that the treatment consists of a series of 2-5 genuine Dermaroller™ procedures with approximately 6 weeks between them but in the treatment of acne scars and other types of scaring it may be necessary to extend your therapy.

Before and after Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy. The area stained purple in the skin biopsy taken after a Genuine Dermaroller™ procedure is newly formed collagen.

After Procedure Skincare

Immediately after your Dermaroller™ treatment you will look as though you have moderate sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after 1 to 2 hours and will normally recover within the same day with only slight redness the following day. Until the redness has cleared and in order to help soothe and calm the skin Linda may apply Chiroxy cream after the procedure

During Recovery:

In the days following your Dermaroller™ treatment as the skin starts to regenerate, replace and repair, it may well feel drier than normal so AesthetiCare® recommend the application of Heliocare Cream or Gel. This should be applied on a daily basis for at least two weeks even during the winter or on cloudy days.

Below are some other key things to remember during the recovery process:

– It is advisable to use tepid water to cleanse the face for the following 48 hours and dry gently
– It is extremely important to make sure your hands are clean when touching the treated area
– It is recommended that make up is not applied for 12 hours after the procedure although options can be discussed and products supplied during this period
– If you will be in daylight immediately after the procedure apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with a SPF50
